Battle of the SUV’s- The 2018 Honda Pilot in San Marcos vs the Dodge Durango

Are you in the market for a new SUV? Even if you’re not, the 2018 Honda Pilot in San Marcos should be on your radar. This sporty utility vehicle is more than just a family car, and it was made for adventure. Check out how it stacks up against its competitor, the Dodge Durango.

It’s Safer

Front crash prevention systems play a huge part in avoiding accidents, and the Honda Pilot comes equipped with incredible features such as lane departure warning, blind spot warning, stability systems to prevent skidding, and much more. When the Pilot was put to the test against the Durango in a trial for their front crash prevention systems, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the Pilot as “Superior,” whereas the Durango was rated as, “Basic.” If that doesn’t satisfy you, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) ran their front crash test as well, and the Pilot still came out as the safer option.

Better Handling

You won’t have to worry about rolling in this adventurous SUV. Front and rear stabilizer bars keep this Pilot flat against the road when making those sharp turns. Another critical factor in staying on the ground is to have a wider distance between the wheels. The Durango only has one stabilizer bar in the back, and the wheel distance comes up shorter than the Pilot by two inches. When put to a little speed and handling test by Motor Trend, the Pilot Elite 4WD was able to execute the “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.3 seconds faster than the Durango GT 4x4.

Honda Sensing® Technology

Last but certainly not least is the most significant difference between these two SUV’s, and that is the Honda Sensing® Technology. This suite of intuitive features helps alert drivers to things that could easily be missed. One of the most impressive features is the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™). This feature applies brake pressure when an unavoidable frontal collision is determined. Now that’s forward-thinking technology.
